Every Single.. or Plural?

Gita: Everyone is ready since morning, They are all waiting just for you.

Rita: I’m not leaving until you clarify this

Gita: Clarify what?

Rita: You first said “Everyone is”. Then you say “They are"

Gita: Right, what’s the problem?

Rita: How can the same people be both singular and plural at the same time?

Gita: Ah ha..

When I said “Everyone is”, it denotes each one of them and hence singular. You cannot say "Everyone are"

However, when referring collectively using "they" it becomes plural and hence “They are”

Rita: What about everybody then? I’m sure I can make them plural

Gita: Everybody is also similar to Everyone

Rita: Everybody and everyone are same, heyy.. I won :)

Gita: Not yet, Now everybody is as angry over you just as everyone and they’ll all come and catch you if you don’t start right away
